The Killjoy of Self-Criticism

Image
kill·joy /ˈkilˌjoi/ Learn to pronounce noun a person who deliberately spoils the enjoyment of others through resentful or overly sober behavior. I admit that the term "killjoy" doesn't exactly fit here, but I think it captures the essence of what I'm sharing about today. One of the many Facebook quilting groups I'm a member of is a group dedicated to a block of the month program I participated in a few years ago. A few days ago, one of the other members posted about starting to piece together her quilt top and how she was in tears of discouragement because none of her points were matching and it just wasn't coming together. She had spent so much time working on this quilt and it was a disappointment to her. She also said she was disappointed in herself .   I never like to see someone disappointed or discouraged in their craft, so I responded to her post with this:  I can definitely commiserate with you. Check out this free BOM for 2010. I think it is just the cutest thing. I love snowmen. And how appropriate on today, when it's snowing here (something it rarely does).

Tatted Bookmarks

Image
I started making tatted bookmarks during the Christmas holidays to give to family and friends while we were visiting in Louisiana. I ordered some hand-dyed thread and have been using it to make bookmarks for co-workers' birthdays. Here are two I made recently for my SIL Mary who gave hers away to a friend. I made an extra one for her other friend, too. The pattern is from a needle tatting book I bought at Hobby Lobby. I can do some shuttle tatting, too (at least I *think* I still know how), but I MUCH prefer needle tatting. I haven't tried any big projects yet. I'm loving these bookmarks that go together super fast. (You can click the photo for a more close-up detail look at the thread).
