The Many Faces of Laikyn

I've been using Laikyn's camera lately and when downloading some recent pics, I found these funny ones she took of herself a few months ago.



Laikyn is our "baby." She will be 18 in a few months. She recently received the study-at-home materials to get certified to be a Personal Fitness Trainer. She will graduate in December of this year from high school.

One of the coolest things I love about Laikyn is that she's always wanted the "costume" for everything. She wanted (and I made her) a Pocahontas outfit when she was little. She also had a Little House on the Prairie dress and bonnet. She had the whole camouflage Army outfit at one point, too (complete with BB gun).

When her study materials came in this week for Personal Fitness Trainer, she was looking through the material and said, "Ooh, I want a t-shirt!" I just had to laugh. She said, "What?!" I said, "You've always had to have the costume to go with whatever you're doing. I think it's so cool and so funny!"

Laikyn's favorite things:

  • pasta (or food in general; she's always hungry)

  • Nathan (she said he's toward the bottom of the list only because he's so new that she didn't think about him at first!)

I didn't create the graphics myself...I bought them from a graphic designer online...I have the link in my sidebar :)...but I did design my blog look...I put things where I wanted them. :)

Hooked on House Tours Blog Party

Julia over at Hooked on Houses is hosting a tour blog party . It's raining here today, so I was thinking, "Well, today wouldn't be a good day to take pics." Then, I was looking through previous posts on Hooked on Houses where she mentioned fuzzy MLS photos, and I thought, "I can use the very good photos Deidre took for our MLS listing for the tour!" Well, I just looked at the first photo that I saved from the listing and they are tiny . So, now I'll have to scour my computer finding photos of our house to share. Oh, well. I found this cool picture of my sil Judy at our first meal in our new home on New Year's Eve 2005. My favorite food is boiled blue crabs and my in-laws drove up here with an ice chest full from S. Louisiana to help us move. Aren't they so nice? :-) In this photo, you can see what our dining room looked like when we moved in. The top of the dining room walls and the entire foyer had this hideous red and green magnolia wallpaper.

God's Extravagant Provision

I had a revelation last night after an early evening swim. The house we are renting has an in-ground pool in the backyard. I don’t know how common it is to be able to rent a house with a pool, but I don’t believe I ever thought it would really happen that we would rent one. It’s been a blessing in our lives, and I’ve even seen the hand of God in it because our daughter’s chiropractor recommended swimming for her muscle-related scoliosis after we moved in. When we came to North Alabama back in November 2003 to look for a house to rent, the pickings were pretty slim. We looked around for one day in the Huntsville area first, but we all agreed we didn’t want to live there so we came back to our first goal—the Shoals area. We looked at a few other houses besides this one, but really none of them were adequate—too small, too junky, questionable neighbors. Decided

I decided that I am moving back to Blogger. I also decided that I'm not transferring all my posts from Typepad to here. I seriously doubt that anyone will be looking for my old ramblings anyway. :-)
